How can thousands of practice locations be secured efficiently and managed centrally? Connecting to the telematics infrastructure involves significant technical, regulatory and operational challenges. By integrating IT security and telematics connectivity, even large-scale projects can be implemented efficiently.
IT service providers and system integrators in the healthcare sector face the challenge of reliably protecting sensitive patient data whilst providing solutions that can be efficiently rolled out, centrally managed and cost-effectively operated. In addition to regulatory requirements, scalability, standardisation and stable operation play a key role – particularly when dealing with a large number of dispersed practice locations.
Security and connectivity from a single source
Tech-Prax GmbH is a specialist IT service provider for psychotherapy and medical practices and has been a Securepoint partner since 2019. The company relies on standardised security concepts that meet the specific requirements of the healthcare market and can be efficiently managed during day-to-day operations.
As part of the collaboration with Securepoint, 2,000 Securepoint firewalls have so far been successfully deployed in as many practices. The plan is to equip a total of 500 practices by the end of 2026. The firewalls form the central security component in the respective practice networks and provide a reliable foundation for the secure operation of the practice’s IT systems.
Facts and figures
- Total project scope: 2,500 firewalls
- Industry: Healthcare / Medical & psychotherapy practices
- Solutions deployed:
- Securepoint firewalls
- Securepoint Antivirus (AV)
- Security awareness training
- Technical focus: Zero-touch enrolment & centralised remote maintenance
- Operating model: Standardised, scalable, managed-service-ready
- Decision-making factors: Product portfolio, scalability, quality of support
Certified TI connection
Another key component of the Securepoint solution is the TI-Proxy, which has been specifically developed for connection to the telematics infrastructure. The primary purpose of the TI-Proxy is to reliably forward data traffic from card terminals to the TI-Gateway and to ensure the necessary communication between the practice environment and TI services via the Securepoint firewall.
For IT service providers and system integrators, the TI-Proxy particularly simplifies the technical implementation of the TI connection, as it provides a defined and reproducible solution for card terminal traffic and simplifies integration into existing firewall setups. This allows TI communication to be consistently mapped without the need for individual special configurations for each practice.
Tech-Prax Managing Director Terje Weise: “The TI connection, particularly via the TI-Proxy, is implemented in a clearly structured manner. Furthermore, collaboration at a technical level works very well – contact persons are available and issues can be clarified directly, which saves a lot of time in day-to-day operations.”
Comprehensive security portfolio
In addition to firewall protection, medical practices utilise further security modules from the Securepoint portfolio. These include Securepoint Antivirus (AV) for basic endpoint protection, as well as awareness training designed to make staff aware of security-related risks. These measures effectively complement the technical security measures and support the smooth running of the practice.
A key advantage for Tech-Prax is the high efficiency of the rollout and operation. Thanks to Securepoint Zero-Touch Enrolment, firewalls can be delivered pre-configured and automatically integrated into the central management system once connected to the practice network. There is no need for time-consuming manual initial configuration on-site. Combined with the extensive remote maintenance options, changes can be rolled out centrally and support cases handled efficiently – a crucial factor when dealing with a large number of distributed locations.
A partnership based on mutual respect
Tech-Prax also chose Securepoint because of the high quality of its service and support. Prior to the partnership, solutions from other providers were evaluated, but their support structures failed to impress. Securepoint, on the other hand, offered direct points of contact, short response times and close collaboration on an equal footing.
Furthermore, Tech-Prax was impressed by the broad, coordinated product portfolio, which can be flexibly adapted to the varying requirements of different practices. Terje Weise: “The decisive factor for us was that the Securepoint solution can be standardised technically and scaled to a large number of practices. Features such as zero-touch enrolment and centralised remote maintenance significantly reduce the workload.”
Scale healthcare projects with ease
This project by Tech-Prax GmbH serves as a model for IT service providers and system integrators, demonstrating how Securepoint can be used to successfully implement scalable, practical security solutions in the healthcare market. The combination of firewall technology, TI Proxy, automated roll-out, centralised management and reliable vendor support creates a solid foundation for sustainable growth in the healthcare sector.
“The TI integration, particularly via the TI proxy, has been implemented in a clear and structured manner. Furthermore, collaboration at a technical level works very well – contact persons are readily available and issues can be resolved directly, which saves a great deal of time in day-to-day operations.”
