Tasks that used to be carried out by typesetters, reproduction technicians, reprographers, photogravure artists and media copy producers are now the sole responsibility of one person: The media designer for digital and print media processes existing digital and analogue data such as texts, images, figures and graphics. He or she is oriented towards the customer’s requirements or the desired communication purpose in the process. The design can be placed underneath with moving image and audio sequences and visualised on screen and paper. The broad basic knowledge provided during training covers not only the technical know-how, but also knowledge relating to business and economics.
The media designer for digital and print media specialises in one of four different specialisations (media consulting, media design, media operating, media technology) which can be classified into the following focal points:
Area - Media Consulting
You carry out project planning for media products independently and within the team and you support and advise customers during and after projects. You visualise and present the project situation and perform project-related data processing tasks.
Area - Media Design
You develop design concepts independently and within the team, use computer-aided tools to design texts, images, graphics, video and audio for multimedia products or for use in digital media. You advise customers in the design of media products taking into account technical, product-oriented and economic aspects.
Area - Media Operating
You plan production processes independently and within the team. You apply, transfer and convert data for multiple use. You combine technology-oriented text, image, graphic, moving image and audio data for multimedia products and output the data to different data carriers and in different media. You advise customers during the media-neutral design of data for multiple use.
Area - Media Technology
You plan production processes independently and within the team and you transfer and input various data via communication technologies. You process and combine data for different output media. You output the data in various media products - especially in reprography, micrography or digital print - and monitor, optimise and document the production process.
The four specialisations have one thing in common: You do most of your work on your computer.
